Mission

Línea Directa is produced in the studios of NBC4 in Washington, D.C.

EVS is a unique nonprofit organization specializing in the production and distribution of marketing and public relations campaigns aimed at the growing Latino market. EVS is the producer of the award-winning television series, Línea Directa, and is a nationally recognized pioneer in the use of commercial Spanish-language media as an effective vehicle for reaching underserved Latino communities.

In recognition of the organization’s groundbreaking accomplishments in public education and Latino outreach, EVS was named a winner of the prestigious 2002 Leadership for a Changing World Award from the Ford Foundation. Nearly 1,500 nonprofit groups were originally nominated for the honor, which was given to just 20 final awardees for demonstrating outstanding creativity and community impact in their work.

EVS partners Wendy Thompson and Eduardo López have more than 35 years of combined experience in public service media and the creation of powerful campaigns that deliver effective results for national organizations, grass roots community agencies, and corporate partners. This specific focus has maintained EVS closely connected to the daily struggles of Latino families, and has given the organization invaluable experience in the design of successful messages for Spanish-speaking audiences. As part of its mission, EVS has:

  • Produced half-hour television programs & national PSAs
  • Conducted multi-city focus group research
  • Implemented successful national & local grass roots outreach campaigns
  • Developed culturally relevant translations of brochures & other written materials
  • Designed Spanish-language posters for national distribution

Línea Directa — For more than 21 years, the series has provided Latino families living in the Washington metropolitan area with information on their rights, as well as on important health, legal, education and social service issues. A groundbreaking public service partnership that is unique in the nation allows EVS to produce Línea Directa in the studios of NBC4 in Washington, D.C. The weekly program is then broadcast by Telemundo Washington during one of the channel’s most coveted local time slots— Sunday mornings, at 11:00 a.m.

National Campaigns — EVS recently worked with Fannie Mae to produce a series of Spanish- language videos designed to help Latino families prevent foreclosures and save their homes. EVS also worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to produce the nation’s first Spanish-language television public education campaign on the problem of lead poisoning in the home. As a result of the effort, millions of Latino families were given their first exposure to information about this dangerous environmental hazard. In addition, EVS produced a visually striking drug abuse prevention PSA for the Office of Minority Health, which was broadcast throughout the U.S. by the Univision, Telemundo and Telefutura networks.
